FORMAT/FORMATO
Duration of Program/Duración del Programa: 200 Contact Hours

Modalidad: Talleres de fin de semana/5 módulos mensuales

Fecha de Inicio: Sábado 31 de Enero

Horario: 9am-3pm todos los sábados. Se podrían incluir algunas horas adicionales durante otro día de la semana.

Nivel: Aunque el programa esta dirigido para especialistas en el área de la salud mental, se buscará que el lenguaje y nivel se adapte al no profesional.

Aval: El programa tendrá el reconocimiento del Capacitador Dr. Stanley Krippner y Del Instituto de Medicina y Tecnología Avanzada de la Conducta, Secretaria del trabajo. Asimismo de la University of Texas at El Paso, Pace Program, lo cual implicará un costo adicional.



I. Program Description/Programa General1
This certificate program is designed to furnish professionals, (*) in the disciplines of psychology and related areas, with in depth knowledge and the skills necessary for working effectively with a children and adolescents suffering from a wide range medical and psychological disorders such as learning disability, hyperactivity, impulsivity, ADHD, anxiety as well as other neurological related disorders such as autism, down syndrome, metal retardation, dyslexia, etc. Also, additional comorbid disorders that often accompany the aforementioned psychological and medical disorders.

The program is designed to train the mental health professional in an interdisciplinary model, which includes the collaboration of the mental health professional with the medical specialist for the betterment of children and adolescents diagnosed with a single or co morbid disorder. Moreover, the program will include assessment techniques, differential diagnosis, the use of psychotropic medication, etc. Moreover, it will include training and knowledge in recent developments in the area of emotional intelligence, therapeutic approaches such as Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, etc. Furthermore, acquisition and learning on the therapeutic strategies to treat the dysfunctional family.

II. Learning Objectives.

Students will Learn / Acquire skills in:

  1. Medical and Psychological assessment of children with special educational needs.

  2. Interdisciplinary approaches to treat children and adolescents with co morbid disorders

  3. About the Clinical syndromes of children with special educational needs

  4. About the theory and practice for school and Clinical settings

  5. Counseling and therapeutic strategies for psychotherapy with children and adolescents

  6. On the use of psychotropic medication to treat children with neurological an psychological disorders

  7. Ethical and Legal issues in psychological intervention

III.Instructors – Bio / Résumé



Dr. Rodolfo Fierro Stevens, obtained his MD from the University of Juarez, Mexico and his specialization on Pediatric Neurology from the New York Hospital and the Texas Children Hospital. He has been in private practice in El Paso Texas for the last 10 years.
Dr. Manuel Villa Ontiveros, obtained his medical degree and specialization on Pediatrics and Pediatric surgeon from the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico and the Hospital Siglo XX.
Dr. Stanley Krippner Ph.D., He is a former Director of the Child Study Center-Kent State University. He is, also, a Certified Sex Educator by the American Board of Sexologists and is a Founding Fellow of the American Association of Clinical Sexologists. Internationally known for his research and contributions on dreams, creativity in Children, behavioral medicine, mind - body medicine, altered states of consciousness and hypnosis. He has served as a Director for the Maimonides Medical Center Dream Laboratory, in N.Y., also, he has serves as Director of the Child Study Center – Kent State University. He has been a lecturer for the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences in Russia. He has been honored with The Doctor of Humane Letters by the University Of Humanistic Studies Of San Diego. He has been President of Division 30 of the American Psychological Association. Author of over 700 scientific papers and books, among them “Personal Mythology”, “A Psychiatrist in Paradise”, etc.
Psi. Jose Antonio Santillan, He holds a Diplomate on Special Education and has worked extensively with the State government on projects related with children with special educational needs.
Dr. Jorge Alvarez, MD., Associated professor of Genetics, Physiology and Human Reproduction at the University of Juarez.. He is a diplomate on Biomolecular Medicine.
Psi. Sergio A. Rueda, Clinical Psychologist, Director of Academic and Psychological Services, Instituto de Medicina y Tecnologia Avanzada de la Conducta, Trained in Ration Emotive Behavioral Therapy Techniques at the Albert Ellis Institute of New York.
